-A DREAM FOR THE PORSCHE COLLECTOR
Because of their high level of finish and many luxurious amenities, Porsche cabriolets were quite expensive. The 356 B 1600 Normal Cabriolet carried a base price of $3,962 FOB New York, according to a 1960 price list from Hoffman Motors, the New York importer. That was about $100 more than a new Corvette. The 1600 Super versions and Carrera versions were even more costly. Porsche cabriolets were extremely well built by Reutter, adjacent to the Porsche Works in Zuffenhausen, and were very comfortable all-weather touring automobiles. Adjustable seatbacks and good soundproofing provided occupants with a smooth and reasonably quiet ride at high speeds.
The magnificent 1961 Porsche 356B 1600 Cabriolet featured here is finished in classic and highly desirable silver metallic over the black leather interior and matching convertible top. This exquisite motorcar was sold new on October 12, 1961, by Pardee & Mozart Porsche of Palo Alto, California, to its first owner, who meticulously maintained it until 2017. It was then handed down to his son, its next caretaker, who would have the engine completely rebuilt as well as a complete service in 2022, including new brakes, valve adjustment much more. This investment-grade Porsche 356B 1600 Cabriolet has never left the state of California until our acquisition and is among the nicest examples we’ve come across in years. One seldom comes across such a well-documented example with impeccable California provenance of one-family ownership since new. Because of this, the investment potential of this iconic Porsche Cabriolet will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most sophisticated collector, investor, or enthusiast who aspires to own one of the best.
